It can add Metro Tracks as a new railtype or at your option replace monorail or maglev with Metro Tracks instead. You should be able to use it in combination with any trainset providing metro vehicles. Three different railtypes are provided: regular metro, metro with catenary and "underground" tracks. Metro Track Set 2017-01-13 (6222:11a07417eedc) MD5Hash: {{GRF_MD5}} Version: 6222 GRF ID: FBFB0402 --------------------- 2 General information --------------------- 2.1 Requirements ---------------- OpenTTD: OpenTTD 1.2.0 (r23758) or newer is recommended. The set should work from nightly r23166, but then some features will be disabled. Anything lower than r23758 is unsupported and for use at own discretion. TTDPatch: Not compatible. 2.2 Installation ---------------- OpenTTD: see http://wiki.openttd.org/NewGRF This NewGRF is available from the ingame Online Content 2.3 Parameter settings ---------------------- You can set the parameters via the ingame parameter settings window. In this section an overview of the available settings. Interface style NewGRFs cannot detect what base graphics set you're using. You can use this setting to make the buttons and cursors provided by this set match your base graphics. Terrain and track style By default the track and the terrain for "underground" metro tracks will match the base graphics set selected for the interface style or the Japan Set Landscape (GRFID 45520B00) terrain when loaded. You can use this setting to deviate from this behaviour. Extra snowy tracks With this option you'll only see the tracks and no ballast on snowy terrain. This setting only has effect on railtypes provided by this set. Level crossings Whether or not to allow construction of level crossings with metro track. Custom signals Custom signals are provided for metro tracks. These signals are less tall and better match the underground track types. You can disable them to get the default signals if you don't like the custom ones. Allow other trains on metro track With this setting you can allow normal rail vehicles on metro track. This setting may not work correctly if you have other track sets loaded as well, in which case you may want to disable this option. Then there are settings for each individual railtype. This allows to disable railtypes that you don't want. Furthermore for the metro and metro with catenary track types you can set them to replace monorail or maglev rather than have them added as additional railtype. 2.4 Usage --------- Tracks will only be available if you have a train set loaded that provides metro vehicles. The following trainsets available from the OpenTTD Online Content were tested with the Metro Track Set. Between brackets is the version number that was tested during writing of this readme. COMPATIBLE: 2cc Subways from the 2cc Set (611) Set the parameter to have metro tracks replace monorail. 2CC Trainset (757/v2.0.0 Beta 5) Set the parameter to have metro tracks replace monorail. Dutch Trainset 2 (625/2.0.0-alpha5) Allow other trains on metro tracks at personal preference. UK Railway Set UKRS2 (1010/1.01) Set the parameter to allow other trains on metro tracks. INCOMPATIBLE: Metro Subway Set (prealpha3.1) This set defines metro vehicles as regular electrified rail vehicles. -------------- 3 Known issues -------------- Glitches with underground track types The underground track types do some fancy stuff with catenary what OpenTTD isn't designed to do. This results in some glitches, where stuff that is supposed to be under the track cover is drawn on top. This is especially noticable on diagonal tracks where trains flicker through the roof, stations which may be partly visible and signals that are not always drawn under the track cover. These issues cannot be solved without modifying OpenTTD, something outside the scope of this (or any) NewGRF. ------------------------ 4 Background information ------------------------ The system used in this set is commonly known as a 'bottom contact third rail', where the third rail sits at either side of the running rails and is slightly elevated above the ground (in the order of a foot (30 cm) or something). This type of third rail has a protective cover on top of the live rail preventing direct contact and therefore limiting the risk of electrocution. This set is inspired by the Dutch metro systems of Amsterdam and Rotterdam which both use the type of third rail as described above (and where the protective cover is in fact yellow). ---------------------------- 5 Frequently Asked Questions ---------------------------- Q: The Metro Tracks are not buildable, why is that? A: The Metro Tracks are only availabe if there are metro vehicles available. These metro vehicles must be provided by a third-party vehicle set and are not available by default in OpenTTD. Q: My metro vehicles are running on some other track than the Metro Tracks, can you fix that? A: You can easily fix that yourself using the parameter options, allowing the Metro Tracks to replace either the maglev or the monorail tracks. Q: Can I use a train set that has metro vehicles on monorail or maglev and a train set that has metro vehicles on third rail at the same time? A: Yes you can. Set the parameter to replace monorail/maglev with metro. Q: How many different railtypes can I have in a single game? A: In addition to normal rail, electrified rail, monorail and maglev NewGRFs can add up to 12 new railtypes, adding up to a total of 16. The four default railtypes cannot be undefined to make more room for new railtypes, but NewGRFs may replace them. Parameter settings in this set allow to replace monorail and maglev so that you can use the available railtype slots as efficiently as possible Q: Do you have a non-railtypes version of this? A: This NewGRF solely uses OpenTTD's railtypes feature to provide the new track types. If you just want a classic graphics replacement of either monorail or maglev track, have a look at Metro Track Set version 1.1.0 available here: http://bundles.openttdcoop.org/metrotr ackset/releases/1.1.0/ source: http://dev.openttdcoop.org/projects/m etrotrackset/repository/show?rev=1.1.0 --------- 6 Credits --------- Metro Track Set developers: FooBar: coding, general graphics manipulation, OpenGFX support, signal graphics. Also state the exact game version you're using, as well as the version of this NewGRF. If you have a savegame that includes NewGRFs not available on OpenTTD's Online Content, then please try to reproduce the bug in a new game which has all NewGRFs easily accessible. If you're using a patched version of the game, please try to reproduce the bug on an official game build. If you can't reproduce the bug, then don't report it here but in the forum topic of the patch(pack) instead. 7.2 Other problems ------------------ If you have any problems using this NewGRF that are not covered in the Frequently Asked Questions above, then you can ask your questions in the forum topic: http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?t=49476 7.3 General enquiries --------------------- If you have any queries that cannot be asked in the forum topic, then contact FooBar via Private Message at www.tt-forums.net or send an email to foobar at jaspervries.nl. --------- 8 License --------- Metro Track Set - Metro Tracks for OpenTTD Copyright (C) 2010,2012,2014 Metro Track Set Developers This program is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify it under the terms of the GNU General Public License as published by the Free Software Foundation; either version 2 of the License, or (at your option) any later version.
